IREM Partnership – An Investment In Next Level Leadership!
An Interview with one of the Principals of Southern Energy Solutions – Henry Báez
How long have you been associated with IREM?
My association with the Georgia chapter of IREM spans for 22 years. Since our relocation to Metro Atlanta in 1998, it has grown to the stage that we are now industry partners.
Why did you and your company decide to become an industry partner with IREM?
In short two phone calls! One was to Dr. Debbie Phillips, PH.D., and the other Deborah Westphal, the Executive Director of IREM which led to the invitation to attend their annual awards meeting and installation of their new officers. So, the phone calls, IREM’s meetings and attendees, all confirmed that IREM’s objectives were set not only to care for its members but also to be an advocate for the real estate industry and at the same time, invest in its future leadership. We are proud to be selected as an industry partner and we intend to do our part to represent IREM. What we are particularly enthused about is the ongoing education program in which Southern Energy is looking forward to participating in. Stay tuned for further information on that initiative.
Any fun quotes that inspire you and your team?
We fix $5 haircuts for $10! That quote came from a meeting with George Lane, the meeting was about a division that was now under my responsibility during an organizational restructuring. The directive also involved that any changes would require his approval, because of his commitment to the initiative and the clients.
As the meeting started he shared this:”Suppose we are a barber shop. We have a sign that states $10 for haircuts. Then, someone across the street puts up a sign that says $5 haircuts, what are we going to do? We’ll simply keep our sign $10 haircuts. However, we will also get a big and flashing sign that states we fix $5 haircuts for $10!” So our discussion began about the “non $10 haircuts” and the plan of action.
